Frequently Asked Questions
Anyone can join Cycling Geelong. We are an inclusive club where all members should feel happy to participate in our activities, whether rides or social events.
We are a friendly, inclusive club with 85+ members, with a very broad range of ages and riding experience. Numbers of cyclists on each ride vary from a few to over 25.
You?ll need a reasonable level of fitness to be able to ride with Cycling Geelong, however rides vary in distance and speed to accommodate many. (Check club calendar for details).
All our rides have a ?no drop? policy, meaning you will never be left behind if you are struggling ? the group will stick together. We always stop for a coffee and some of the rides have stops along the way.
Not at first, we encourage you to come and join a ride before committing to becoming a member. Enjoy up to 3 free taster rides before you decide. The most important thing for any taster ride is that your bike is roadworthy and that you have fun. Following your taster rides, if you wish to continue riding with us you will need to become a club member.
No! If you are new to group riding, the Club Ride Leader will explain what to expect and how to use basic hand signals, etc., and other members will help you out along the way. You should also read our Bunch Riding Guide. By listening and observing other riders you?ll soon learn the basics and your confidence will increase.
As a member you can join as many rides as you wish! We offer regular rides throughout the week as well as one-off destinations that change frequently. We also offer several multi-day rides in Victoria throughout the year. (Check the Ride Calendar for details).

Most of our club riding is done on either gravel or bitumen ? roads, rail trails and the like, therefore most types and styles of bikes are appropriate. The bikes ridden are as diverse as the members riding them and range from racing, hybrid, gravel, MTB and E-Bikes! We welcome any bike, as long as it is well maintained, and you have fun on it.
The Cycling Geelong website provides up to date information on Club rides and social events. We also send weekly emails to all members with upcoming ride information.
Whilst we all look out for each other on club rides, members are responsible for their own safety on a ride. If you have an accident on a club ride, your fellow members will do what they can to help you. We recommend you carry details of your emergency contact person whilst riding, and keep this information up to date. If you don?t feel well before a ride or have an injury, you should consider resting until you feel fully fit again.
We offer a variety of rides across the week and weekend. See the Club Calendar for more information.
