Who’s at fault when cyclists die? Stats show its the motorist in most cases

With Vic Roads recommending changes to road rules pertaining to cyclists, there are several reports in today’s The Age.  While motorist perceptions may be that ‘Cyclists are stupid and always break road rules’ (774ABC SMS comment this morning), in 79% of incidents where cyclists were seriously injured, the motorist was found to be at fault. Read the Age report online at http://www.executivestyle.com.au/finding-fault-when-cyclists-and-motorists-collide-ghwwze . (Sadly, another cyclist death occurred yesterday when a truck driver turned left straight into a cyclist in Keilor East yesterday.  The driver is ‘assisting police’, we hear.)

It’s interesting that while the page 3 report on Vic Roads recommendations was headlined Cyclists not safe on the roads, the online report once again puts cyclists in the wrong with Cyclists face on-the-spot fines for using their phones, VicRoads report recommends.
