This club ride clashed with The Ballarat Cycling Classic. Consequently, there were only two riders – Helen (leader) and Neville.
It was a perfect day for cycling, though the strong easterly led to a slight alteration in course – taking the Bellarine Rail Trail from Leopold to Curlewis. It was another good opportunity to ride the newly sealed portion of Swan Bay Road to Banks Road. The ride then turned south to Collendina for coffee at the very busy Cheeky Cow Cafe.
The return route was via Thirteenth Beach, Lake Road and Barwon Heads Road with a return to Rippleside via Breakwater and the waterfront.
This morning a group of 11 enjoyed a circuit around ‘the inner Bellarine’. Coffee was at The Cheeky Cow Cafe at Collendina. With press complaints recently about CoGG not providing cycle parking near coffee shops, it was good to see the new racks installed at The Cheeky Cow. While we were there they were all full, and there were at least half a dozen bikes dotted around.
These Wednesday rides are not aligned to any club – anyone who can ride around 80km at an average of 20+kph is welcome. If you’re on holidays, please consider joining us. Just turn up with bike, helmet and coffee money at the start.
These friendly Wednesday rides started as an off shoot of On Ya Bike! Cycling Geelong’s annual series of rides for Seniors Month.
Next week’s ride starts at 8am at Rippleside Park near the adventure playground.
Today’s circuit was 70km. Those who cycled to the starting point added to this (John M probably had the longest ride of around 100km from North Geelong. Helen’s was 88km.
