Docklands via Geelong Flyer – Melbourne at 42C!: Monday, 30th December, 2019

On almost the last day of the year, Robert led five intrepid cyclists to Melbourne on the Geelong Flyer, leaving Geelong at 11am, on a day which reached 43 Celcius in the shade in Geelong, and would have been much hotter for anyone riding in the sun.   The cyclists were Robert, Kevin, David S, Kelly and Allan, with a sixth, Margy, joining the group in the city.

The ride along the Capitol Trail was achieved, and the group returned safely on the evening ferry.

Facebook quotes from Robert:

30 December at 11.41 “Adventure today with Cycling Club members; Geelong Ferry to Docklands. Lunch at Abbotsford Convent them continue on Capitol City Trail back around to Docklands.
A day for slip, slopping and slapping and staying hydrated.
Blessed with the freedoms and adventures available to us.

30 December at 22.24 – “All home safe from ride. Awesome. Lots of laughs as we cycled Melbourne. Excellent cycling route, on and off road.”

From Robert’s ride report – “Extreme heat; needed to manage cyclists’ wellbeing; keeping hydrated, regular stops, modified route reducing distance and direction.”  Ride distance 23km.

For those who missed this ride, Robert will lead a second ride using the Geelong Flyer next Wednesday, 8th January.  See the Ride Calendar for details.  Ferry bookings are essential.
