Laura led the ride of fifteen or so cyclists around a very wet river path this morning. If bikes were clean at the start, by the time the riders had negotiated numerous puddles and a mud slip covering the path after overnight storms, by the coffee stop all looked decidedly mud-spattered.
Three riders joined at the Breakwater. Tina has felt in poor form lately, but after Robert supplied extra air in the tyres, found it had been the bike all along. She had no trouble keeping up after that to complete the whole circuit.
Despite the cold morning, strong westerly wind, and promise of more rain to come, there were fifteen or to riders, with Robert acting as Tail End Charlie (see the ride calendar for Robert’s Melbourne ride on Sunday July 31st).
Thanks to Laura and Robert for stepping in at short notice and to all riders whose company makes this ride by far our most popular ride. Coffee was at Barwon Edge.
For those wanting to ride a little further, Stella’s Point Henry and eastern suburbs ride tomorrow should be just the thing to help gaining confidence in road riding. It will be slow, is 25km (only 5 km longer than the river circuit) and gives those riders who haven’t yet tried out the new bike path in Eastern Park the chance to do so. The starting time is 8:30 from Hearn Parade (car park in Eastern Park above Eastern Beach). See you there…
