WestFEST is back!

Free Community Arts Festival
Sunday 20 March, 1.00 – 6.00 pm
West Park, Cnr Autumn and Pakington Streets, Geelong West

WestFEST 2016, a free community arts festival set in the beautiful surrounds of leafy West Park, brings together the people of Geelong West and beyond to profile local artists, creative industries and community groups.  There is something for everyone!

The president of the Geelong West Neighbourhood House Pam Virgona will open WestFEST 2016 followed by traditional Wadda Wurrung woman Corinna O’Toole’s Welcome to Country.

A great variety of local bands, choirs and children’s performers will showcase their musical talents across two stages throughout the afternoon.  WestFEST 2016 has huge support from local artists including Isabelle Khalife, Sean Patrick, Famous Will, The Sequels, Rach Brennan, Mini Maestros and Move to Music.  A highlight of the afternoon will be the appearance of The Run!!

The Pako Wanderers (Tim, Tim, David and Dirk) will be prominent at the festival. They have been training hard after work to enter a team in the Oxfam Trailwalker, an inspiring 100km team challenge. Their aim is to start and finish, together, and raise much needed funds to help alleviate poverty. These legends will be cooking on the sausage sizzle and appearing on stage with a representative from Oxfam. They are local, brave and committed to the cause.

With an ethos of being local, sustainable and linked to the community, WestFEST 2016 showcases the best in local food with Geelong West Social Club serving up wonderful coffee, and the French Corner Cafe, Warren & Hutch, Mushiki Dumplings, Nordenfine Ice Cream and Fergusson Plarre offering a fantastic range of eating experiences. And no community event is complete without a BBQ. This year Pako Wanderers have partnered with Ashby Primary School to bring you the best in outdoor cooking.

There will be interactive demonstrations, a large selection of come and try activities and a market filled with handmade stalls.  There will also be the annual drawing and photography competition which takes place on the day, with some great prizes.  Some community stalls will have a clear emphasis on sustainability, such as Cycling Geelong and Geelong Organic Gardeners.

The dynamic children’s area includes face painting and other free kids’ activities, including craft and storytelling by the Geelong West library in the iconic West Park rotunda .

If you are looking for a day out for people of all ages and abilities with a great down to earth community feel, come to WestFEST!  BYO picnic blankets and chairs, settle in with your family and friends, and stay for the whole afternoon. And don’t leave your furry friends at home – we welcome them as part of the family.
