Eight riders arrived at Rippleside on a very hot Sunday to explore the newly names Karndoor-Kara Track in North Geelong. John M was leader, with Geoff and Carolyne, Sandra, Rod, Rosemary, Marie and Helen taking the tail end.
The newly formed route makes use of three existing trails – The Bay Trail (northern section), The Ted Wilson Trail and Cowies Creek Trail. The trail starts to Moorpanyul Park, where a plaque and sculpture have been erected.
A map is available from CoGG service centres, showing points of interest, facilities etc.
The riders used the get to Moorpanyul Park, then followed the Karndor-Kara Track to Weir Deppeler Park near the Wathaurong Aboriginal Co-op. They then returned to the bay Margaret Street overpass, and cycled the Bay Trail to The Boathouse for refreshments. By this time it was really hot, but John managed to enjoy his usual cycling fare – a potato cake.
This was a delightful ride, with lots of stops for rests and drinks in the heat. It’s all on paths and quiet roads. It’s certainly well worth adding to our regular calendar. Thanks to John for a most enjoyable ride.
