A lizard sunning near Queens Park Bridge, totally unconcerned by passers by.

Seniors who came out of the woodwork for the first of the offering by Cycling Geelong last Wednesday, 1st October 2014 took a leisurely spin around a loop of the Barwon River. They began at Balyang Sanctuary, a centre of activity for the early town in the 1840s, an appropriate place to begin a look at Geelong’s first phase of growth through the agency of wool and produce from the Western District.  Riding to the Breakwater then back to the Fyansford Common they stopped at locations to note remnants of that early activity of Geelong.  As always the ride came alive through many of those riding giving info.  Coffee and conversation was at Barwon Edge.  For the past nearly 20 years Cycling Geelong has conducted this ride each Saturday morning, a testament to something in it that makes it very very special.

Editor’s note:  The Saturday river circuit ride is open to all.  The ride leaves Balyang Sanctuary carpark at 9am every Saturday morning.  Join us for fun, friendship and fitness.
