Cycling and Freemasonry: can they co-exist? Invitation

The Acacia Lodge Of Geelong Non Ceremonial Night

Thursday 22nd May, 2014

Cycling Geelong members and their friends are invited to join us for our Non Ceremonial Night – “Freemasonry and Cycling” – at Geelong Masonic Centre, 25 Regent Street, Belmont on Thursday 22nd May, 2014 commencing at 7.30 pm.

Dress for the evening is to be smart casual.

We will be gathering in South No 1 (large Supper Room in east wing). where, after a welcome to the evening is made to all in attendance, a brief tour of Geelong Masonic Centre will be conducted with particular emphasis placed on explaining a little of Freemasonry and the history of this Lodge. It is to be hoped that all members of the Lodge will invite friends and family of all ages to this informal evening.

On our return to the South we will be entertained by Mr Rod Charles, author of “A Whirr Of Many Wheels” – “Cycling In Geelong” – A Chronicle From 1869 to 1914″ published in 2013 in the first of three volumes.

Rod will no doubt speak about the history of cycling in general but will also highlight the great achievements of several famous Freemason cyclists, particularly those who have strong links to Geelong.

He is also looking forward to sharing with you and your guests as you tell your everyday cycling stories in terms of joys and sorrows.

As a special feature, a selection from Rod’s historical bicycle collection will be on display on the evening.

Rod would be especially pleased if you would dig out some cycling memorabilia, photos, posters, clothing ….. even any old bike parts, accessories or whole bicycles whether in running order or not.

The evening will conclude with supper, so it would be great if your could let Doug Merritt know numbers expected to attend

Doug’s email: or text/voicemail to 0416 206 852 or message to 5248 2068.

We look forward to seeing you and your friends on this special race ladies
