Last week Peter and Swee rode the Goulburn Valley High Country Trail from Tallarook to Mansfield then took a trip to Nagambie, discovering the Nagambie Wetlands.
This dramatic photo is of the Cheviot Tunnel on the High Country Trail. Below is Peter’s account of the wetlands ride.
Nagambie Wetlands Ride
Swee & Peter Smith
On the last day of March we rode the short distance from Nagambie to Chateau Tahbilk, intending on a much longer 45km ride before we finished for the day. We’d done this ride before – but hadn’t counted on the fabulous condition the Nagambie Wetlands were in as we rode towards Tahbilk.
So we changed plan and rode into and around the wetland – which took us well into the afternoon. Not a huge amount of bird life since we were a bit late into a hot morning – but enough to entertain us in kookaburras, cockatoos, galahs, pelicans, white faced herons, ducks and coots.
The ride was only 25km by the time we got back to the Nagambie holiday centre – but a wonderful day!
