With the weather finally cooler, Max gathered six cyclists – Glen, Doug, Graeme, Karen, John M and Helen at the Geelong Showgrounds to cycle the rail trail to Drysdale. There had been just enough rain to make the unsealed sections of the trail very dirty.
Barry joined the group at Leopold. At Drysdale, Karen decided to eschew coffee and ride on to Queensciff. Barry, always ready to accept a challenge, joined her.
The core of the riders enjoyed a pleasant coffee break at Cafe Zoo. (Service on Sunday morning is leisurely!)
Back at the bikes, Max discovered his pride and joy had a puncture. The others cyclists gave invaluable advice and learned a few lessons about thoroughness!
After this extended break, and energised with caffeine and chatter, the group made good time back to Geelong.
If you’re riding the rail trail, watch out for soft sand/gravel near Curlewis Golf Course. The trail is rideable by all bikes, but wider tyres give a more comfortable ride.
Both cyclists and bikes needed cleaning after this most enjoyable ride.
