Cycling Geelong is affiliated with Bike Safe, a major cycling advocate in the Geelong region.
I recently attended the Annual General Meeting and was impressed by the amount of improvements that have been implemented with pressure from Bike Safe.
Much of this is documented in the Annual Report. > Annual Report
There is also a map of the Principal Bicycle Network. As I understand it, if a road is on the PBN, when it is to be upgraded or have cyclic maintenance, facilities for cyclists must be considered. In most cases this will mean either maintaining and upgrading bike lanes, or sealing of shoulders on country roads. The Bellarine Peninsula and south west are well served by the PBN. Those wishing to cycle in the northern areas may be somewhat disappointed. We can cycle to Lorne and Apollo Bay on PBN roads, but not, so far, to Ballan, Anakie, Bacchus Marsh or Werribee.
